Is it OK to ride your horse on concrete or pavement? Horses were not meant to run on hard surfaces for long periods of time especially without shoes. Hard surfaces can wear down their hooves and cause problems over time. Some people would disagree and you may be able to do this walking and trotting but in our opinion extensive running is not good for them.

Certain types of boots or shoes do make this possible though. We would recommend taking it easy and seeing how it goes and be sure the surface is dry so they do not slip. Check your horse’s feet regularly for soreness.

We recommend doing this gradually over time and in moderation. Hope this helps!
